President John F. Kennedy, the 35th President of the United States of America, met his death in the course of duty. He sacrificed his life for the ideals of respect for and promotion of justice and freedom, and for the happiness of the peoples of the world. To celebrate his life and ideals, The John F. Kennedy Foundation of Thailand was established on 2 December 1963 as a memorial to the principles he promoted. The Foundation was set up by H.E. Dr. Thanat Khoman, then Thailand’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, using his personal funds. Over the past six decades, the Foundation has received financial support through donations, bequests, endowments, and interest from financial accounts, that has enabled it to accomplish much within the educational and cultural fields.
Since 1963, the Foundation has promoted and supported education and social development, Thai - American friendship, and an appreciation of the cultural heritage of Thailand and the United States, as well as of the societies and cultures of ASEAN, which were the ideals of President John F. Kennedy and Dr. Thanat Khoman.
A roundtable was organized on Wednesday, 22 November 2023, to raise awareness on Thai-U.S. relations among the Thai public on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the John F. Kennedy Foundation of Thailand. The roundtable was organized in collaboration with the International Studies Center (ISC) of Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the American Studies Association in Thailand (ASAT).
